Multibabel: when automatic translation gets humoristic

Since the early works of automatic translation, people used to test their program with several classical verses from Psalms of the holy Bible, or from citations of the great antique Greek philosophers.

Here is an example that often fools automatic translation tools such as Systran's web translator used by babelfish.altavista.com. The multitranslation was done automagically through Carl Tashian's "Lost in translation" tool:

Original English Text:
The spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak.

Translated to French:
L'esprit est fort, mais la chair est faible.

Translated back to English:
The spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak.

Translated to German:
Der Geist ist stark, aber das Fleisch ist schwach.

Translated back to English:
The spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak.

Translated to Italian:
Lo spirito è forte, ma la carne è debole.

Translated back to English:
The spirit is strong, but the meat is weak person.

Translated to Portuguese:
O espírito é forte, mas a carne é pessoa fraca.

Translated back to English:
The spirit is strong, but the meat is weak person.

Translated to Spanish:
El alcohol es fuerte, pero la carne es persona débil.

Translated back to English:
The alcohol is strong, but the meat is weak person.

Funny, isn't it?
